You might remember, back in 2024, I read Stone Cold Heart years after reading Sweet Little Lies (reviews linked to both). Well, you will be pleased to know I got my butt into gear and finally read part three, and currently possibly forever the final part, of the Kinsella series by Caz Frear.
Cat Kinsella works on solving murders in London whilst constantly battling to keep her own life and family history a secret and in Shed No Tears it gets incredibly close to all unravelling when it’s time to deal with a murder that could potentially be linked to one of the biggest gang leaders in London allegedly.
When there’s a credible eye witness that puts the missing, now found dead, girl on the doorstep of a suspected serial killer he’s banged to rights and finds himself killed in prison a few years later. But with the body appearing and showing a few discrepancies the whole case has been blown wide open again. Was it him all along or did somebody play a good game of hiding it?
The team explore so many angles and possibilities. They realise their extended team might not all be on their side but it isn’t until the very end of the book we discover who really is on the right side of the murder squad and who isn’t. It’s a twist I wasn’t expecting but it all made complete sense as the pieces were laid out in front of me.
There’s other bits and characters we meet along the way that we grow connections with and at times feel sorry for, or concerned about, and others that we grow to hate and snarl at. As the story ebbs and flows your thoughts on them all keep changing but it doesn’t really change your suspicions as to who it is.
I would happily re-read this entire series one day and I desperately want for it to be adapted into a TV show. If you haven’t read any of these yet then give it a go. A lot of libraries have them, especially the first one, if you don’t want to initially buy the whole set or they go on sale online fairly frequently.
I just wish that Cat made a different decision for her own life journey to keep us entertained for longer but maybe she will be back after all! Perhaps her Dad will have some Frank Hickey related accident, she’ll come running back free from worry and guilt and get offered the chance to lead another murder investigation…. Look, a reader can dream.
