This Alaskan Pollock Thermidor Left Me Shocked

I’ve thought long and hard about this and I’m not sure if I’ve ever had any sort of thermidor before. And until I got this Alaskan pollock thermidor in an Aldi Too Good To Go bag I honestly thought you only really got it as a lobster thermidor.

So this container technically came with two servings of the fish coated in a creamy brandy sort of sauce and some breadcrumbs. However, I put both of them on my plate. The idea is that you do this and your vegetables and perhaps a carb, like new potatoes, on the side. I did mine with some broccoli, in the oven with the fish, and opted for no carbs. I live alone and didn’t want to really have this as leftovers the next day.

But this felt so indulgent. The sauce was delicious and the fish was soft and flaky. The breadcrumbs added a little texture but not a lot, especially as the topping had slid around a little before it came into my possession, but it made it feel like a rounded dish.

Apparently, this is a seasonal sort of dish and I haven’t been able to find it on their website. The nearest they have a seafood, scallop and lobster thermidor in a very fancy looking piece of packaging compared to this one just being from the fishmonger ready to cook sort of range. But with that I haven’t been able to figure out what this would have been full price.

With you needing to add elements to it and the general price of pollock I would be surprised if it was more than £3-£3.50 but I think I would probably pay up to £3.50 for this. By the time you add the other bits to it you’d be looking at around a £5 meal so split between two that’s £2.50 a portion with all the trimmings. That isn’t a terrible price bit does still feel a little much.

It is a great meal though if you don’t want to make your own thermidor because you don’t have, or don’t want to buy, your own bottle of brandy. It being pollock also helps to keep the price down and with it being a more basic fish is more likely to appeal to a wider audience.

I don’t go into Aldi very often but if I did and I spotted this I might actually pick one up. I genuinely enjoyed the flavours, the mouth feel and the overall simplicity of popping this into the oven for about 30 minutes and getting something so tasty.

After getting it in an @aldiuk @toogoodtogo I tried this Alaskan Pollock thermidor. Involving the fish, brandy, mustard and cheese, breadcrumbs and some other goodness this was actually an incredibly delicious meal. Truly. I’d buy it again. #food #cooking #cookingvideo #cookwithme #cookingwithme #simplerecipe #quickrecipe #quickfood #comfortfood #cookingathome #fypfood #foodiesoftiktok #homecook #homecooking #simplefood #foodiesofinstagram #mealswithme #recipesoftiktok #recipe #easyrecipe #review #productreview #foodreview #Aldi #fish #thermidor
