I’ll warn you now I could waffle on for an incredibly long time about Little Dessert Shop after my visit to the Pontefract, West Yorkshire branch in September.

The weather had very much started to turn, it was grey and a little rainy outside, but stepping into here on a Saturday lunch time felt like it was giving you a nice big hug. There was a nice level of warmth inside but the seating, layout and décor really added to that cosy feeling too.

We grabbed a seat at a booth and the server came over with some menus for food and one for drinks. There were so many choices. I had scouted the menu ahead of time online but seeing it all in once place had me pondering my choices a bit more! After a while of deliberating it was time to go to the counter to order so they could get to freshly making the waffles and drinks.

I ended up going for one of the viral things of the moment, a waffle with white chocolate, strawberry, pistachio cream, Oreo crumb and kunafa. I went with my Mum, actually it was my mum that treated me to this desserty lunch (thanks Mum!), and she opted for the Nutella and Kinder Bueno heavy one.

The size of the waffles was extraordinary and you can tell they truly filled the waffle press up to the brim and that amount of toppings was a decent amount too to be able to taste it across every bite.

The waffles also come with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that was incredibly chilled to the extent that I had to let it warm up a little before eating it!

Both of them were incredibly delicious, we swapped a quarter to give both a go, but I will say that I think the chocolate one was a lot more balanced in terms of the flavour of the waffle and the sweetness from everything else. Don’t get me wrong the pistachio one was fantastic but the sweetness kicked in pretty quickly and I felt it on the inside of my cheeks. Would I have it again? Absolutely I just might need to choose a better drink choice to counteract it.

For those drinks specifically I think I would have had a better balance but the drink I wanted they didn’t have the mix for so instead I went for a blueberry muffin cold foam matcha which was, of course, incredibly sweet as well.

My Mum, clearly a pro at making balanced flavour choices, went for a Biscoff milkshake that whilst it had some caramel syrup going on the wheaty biscuit flavour really helped to make the milkshake almost a more savoury feel at least against the sweet waffles. Although, I think a milkshake is an incredibly filling choice alongside such a large waffle and especially when I tell you these were the small size for the drinks!

I would absolutely go in for either of these drinks, or to give some others a go, again in the future. Even if it was just to get a milkshake to-go.

For the amount of food you get, the service and the relaxed cosy atmosphere I think that the price point was incredibly reasonable as well. The pistachio waffle was £9.50 and came in at 620kcal whilst the blueberry muffin cold foam matcha was £4.95 and the other two items were a similar price point.

You can get crepes, pancakes, cakes, cheesecakes, cookie doughs and ice cream desserts as well as hot drinks, lemonades and a whole other selection of food and drink and that does help to cover both your preference and also hunger levels but I would recommend going on an empty stomach!

It isn’t cheap but if you go with the mindset of Little Dessert Shop being an entire meal then it’s no more expensive than going to a cafe or generic high street restaurant for a main or something like a burger and drink.
