I think I just need to accept defeat. I make some fabulous ‘pizza’ using tortillas for bases and even naan style ones or just use the garlic and cheese pizzas from the Lidl frozen section to pop toppings on but give me an uncoated basic pizza base and I just can’t seem to get it quite right.
We got some flame-baked ones from Sainsbury’s, they come on the cupboard shelves so have a fairly long life which makes them perfect for picking up when you don’t know exactly what day you might want pizza, and they were an okay price coming in at £2.25 for the pack of two.
I topped mine with some hummus, mushrooms, halved tomatoes and cheddar cheese and put it into the pre-heated oven at the recommended temperature and after the 7-9 minutes of cooking time it was certainly still on the floppy side. Cooked yes but still a bit chewy and just warmed through. I think it could have done with double the amount of recommended time to make it really like a pizza base instead of just seeming a bit like a flatbread.
They weren’t bad and they certainly had potential to be good but not cooking in the time frame specified agitated me a little as I was in a rush to get other things done this day and couldn’t just sit in front of my oven waiting and waiting a bit longer for them to finally harden up and become truly hot.
If you’re not making your own pizza dough what’s your go to pizza base or bready type item you use from either the shelf section, fridges or freezers?
