Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake

At less than £1 for this cheesecake that serves five it’s perhaps not surprising that I had pretty low expectations.

There are certainly times when I want a really fancy luxurious piece of cheesecake but there are also times when I just simply want cheesecake. Naturally, this was purchased with the intention of tackling that second want. In fact I’d be out of luck if I wanted the first one fulfilled as even the fanciest Lidl cheesecake does not hit those spots.

Whilst the cheesecake itself isn’t incredibly deep it does have a good base to filling ratio. For me at least, there is nothing more disappointing than a tiny layer of biscuit crumb at the bottom of a cheesecake.

The base itself could have been packed a little tighter to give it a bit more structure and bite but it had that crunchy sweetness there and at the price point it was a pretty average base.

The filling portion could certainly have been a bit creamier and had that taste to match that texture. I did find the plain bits a little bland and it could have done with a touch of vanilla or something in there or had some of the strawberry running through it.

As you might expect from the price point there isn’t any sliced strawberries or anything on this frozen, to defrost at home, cheesecake. Instead there are swirls of something like a strawberry coulis or jam. This provides sweetness and a subtle strawberry flavour but doesn’t knock your socks off.

For what it is and the price point this cheesecake is perfectly okay. If I was getting something to impress guests or if I wanted to really treat myself to sumptuous luxury this wouldn’t be what I would grab. But if I was in a pinch and needing to put together something like a dessert selection for a children’s party or just desperately wanting comfort food then this might be the right choice.
