You might recently have seen me praising the cheese and onion bakes from this What’s Cooking? brand available in Lidl. Sadly, I cannot completely say the same about these sausage rolls.
They are not terrible. If I really wanted an oven hot sausage roll and Greggs was completely out (imagine the outrage at a country shortage) then I might get these again but that would be from a place of real desperation for one hecking odd craving.

I changed the cooking time and temperature on these because I figured maybe it just wasn’t calculated on a way that suited my oven but nothing seemed to change the result. The pastry was flaky but not the buttery good flaky but the dry, almost crumbly, sort which was pretty incredible given the way the fat leaked from the sausage meat out of the slits.
The ratio of pastry to meat is not too shabby but it could be whatever ratio it wanted and it would not solve the pastry or the texture of the meat. Sausage meat is always on the smooth side but this felt a bit like paste when you started chewing it.
It seems like maybe this brand is a little bit hit and miss. I grabbed more cheese and onion ones recently but maybe I will risk trying a few other things in the line soon.
