What’s Cooking? Cheese And Onion Bakes

Alright, I will admit it. I love cheese and onion bakes from Greggs. Heck I have one probably at least once a month. But they are £2 a piece in Greggs these days. But these, a box of two frozen ones, comes in at £1.39.

Honestly, these are just as good as the Greggs ones if you have the freezer space, forward thinking and time to put them in the over for just less than 30 minutes. With the weather warming up they can go fantastically with some salad too to keep it feeling fresh and relatively light.

The puff pastry on one of mine, as you can see in the photos, did start to split and some of the filling very nearly leaked out but it just about stopped itself.

The pastry itself feels very buttery and comes out super flaky and the filling has a good strong cheese taste as well as that noticeable onion punch. Sometimes I find store bought pastries can be lacking in the filling department but not this one.

I know you can get frozen versions of Greggs ones in Iceland but haven’t given them a go to see how they compare to the store fresh ones but honestly those are still £3.50 for two so a saving on the store but still hugely more expensive than these fantastic replicas.

Iceland do an own brand version of two for £1 so perhaps I will see if they match up like these or if that extra price cut sees them starting to skimp on the filling.

Would highly recommend! Let me know if you give them a try or if you have tried any of the three mentioned how you think they compare to a store bought fresh Greggs cheese and onion bake.
