Angel Delight ‘Cheesecake’

Alright cheesecake has the ” around it for a reason. It is very much not a cheesecake but I do not know how else to describe this dessert so here we are. Let us enjoy this blast from our childhood past by making it into something just as delightful even now.

I first heard about this a long time ago and decided to make it again recently. It works out to be lower in calories and sugar content than a lot of dessert but still feels like an indulgent treat and erm the grapes make it ‘healthy’.

Ingredients (For Four)

  • One packet of Angel Delight mix (I used butterscotch)
  • Half a pint of milk (I used semi-skimmed)
  • Eight chocolate digestives crushed (I used a mini chopper)
  • A handful of grapes chopped in half

Method

  1. Choose a glass dish or lots of smaller dishes or metal pots (perhaps you have those Gu glass jars hanging around) and place down the chocolate digestive crumbs.
  2. In a jug or bowl you are confident pouring from mix the Angel Delight mixture with the milk. Mix thoroughly to ensure there is no remaining powder or clumps.
  3. Gently pour this over the biscuit crumble.
  4. Place the grapes however you like on top. As you see I just did a random scatter of two different types of grape.
  5. Put in the fridge and set for at least five minutes, though I suggest slightly longer to allow it to cool, before serving.

Eating And Storage Tips

You can make this up a day or two in advance of when you need it. I would recommend consuming it all by the end of day three but this makes it great for you to have something resembling a dessert or treat for a few days without breaking the calorie bank.

You could probably mix the grapes through the Angel Delight mixture before putting it onto the biscuit base if you want a more incorporated feel. A few other fruits might work too; Bananas slices on top of a banana or. Cut up fresh cherries for the chocolate one (if this even still exists). Strawberries for the well strawberry one.

You could make this more indulgent, especially if you want to serve it for guests, by layering a couple of different types up, perhaps grating some chocolate on top and adding a little whipped cream or something.

And of course the type of biscuits you use are completely up to you. You might want to go custard creams or Nilla wafers for the banana one to give a sort of banana pudding vibe.
