Like a big kid, I love chocolate milk or flavoured milk in general. If there is a chance to get a fun milkshake I will but offer me just plain milk and nope not today thank you.
But I tend to be shopping on a budget and am always looking for cheaper alternatives to make it feel a little bit of a more acceptable ‘non essential’ purchase. For one 1l carton of Dairy Manor chocolate milk from Lidl it costs 89p.

This is made from 1% fat milk (skimmed milk) and you can sort of tell by the thickness of this milk. There are some chocolate milks you get that feel very thick and creamy and don’t slide around the glass quite at much. Depending on why I am wanting chocolate milk this viscosity can be a positive and a negative. Out of normal milk for certain cereals I can use this but if I want something that feels like a real luxurious treat that is cold but not a yoghurt or ice cream this does not hit the mark.

One thing I am not sure of is how many of the other milks also have Xanthan Gum in but it throws me off because to me it is used as a thickener as well as a stabiliser and therefore you would expect it to have a bit more thickness to go with it.
As well as the thickness this milk isn’t hugely intense with the chocolate flavour and I feel that if they had put more chocolate powder in there it could have also aided the consistency a bit but I am aware that could have impacted the cost and affordability a bit. I do feel there is a balance though and they could have added that small amount extra and boosted the price to keep this affordable but worth it; If they added a bit more I would pay up to £1 for this.
