I used to love BN Biscuits growing up especially the strawberry and chocolate ones; Controversial take but I preferred the strawberry ones of these over Jammie Dodgers because of the texture and the silly looking face too.
In fact for a little while BN biscuits, a French creation, disappeared from our shelves completely. They came back in 2014 and even then I remember when they did of me seeing some in a store and having a great moment of excitement because until then I had forgotten they existed. In honesty, pretty much whenever I actually see them in store I then remember that they exist and get excited all over again.
For some reason though in the store I had a choice between the strawberry ones and these vanilla ones and something made me think “oh vanilla, they sound amazing”. Perhaps that is truly a sign that I turned 30 earlier in this year and am turning into a terribly boring person (yes I am judgemental about choices of biscuit filling flavour and no I am not sorry for it). Vanilla things can have a habit of being too sweet or just not tasting great, though I think it is partly because I have a thing about warmed up vanilla scents smelling like old person or like somebody has put a perfume over the smell of pee, but this was not super sweet or strong at all. There was just a mild hint of flavour running through the cream.
On reflection I suppose these vanilla ones are sort of like Oreos but with a more subtle and normal biscuit flavour instead of a chocolate one and of course they have that fun but creepy facial expression to go with it. The strawberry ones like Jammie Dodgers and then the chocolate ones are a little like Bourbon Biscuits, or at least the inside filling is, and with that I can see why perhaps they went away for a while. They just aren’t very unique but to me they have the good level of biscuit crunch and a pleasing set of flavours available that make it more enjoyable to get these (especially given they are also cheaper than a lot of other branded biscuits).
Next time though I need to remember to pick up one of my favourite flavours for that extra little bit of nostalgia.
